چکیده

This paper examines the applications most commonly run on the supercomputers at the Numerical Aerospace Simulation (NAS) facility. It analyzes the extent to which such applications are fundamentally oriented to vector computers, and whether or not they can be e ciently implemented on hierarchical memory machines, such as systems with cache memories and highly parallel, distributed memory systems. Novel HPC Technologies for Scalable CAE: The Case for Parallel I/O and File Systems

As HPC continues its aggressive platform migration from proprietary supercomputers and Unix servers to HPC clusters, expectations grow for clusters to meet the I/O demands of increasing fidelity in CAE modeling and data management in the CAE workflow. Cluster deployments have increased as organizations seek ways to costeffectively grow compute resources for CAE applications, and during this mig...

Revisiting the Storage Stack in Virtualized NAS Environments

Cloud architectures are moving away from a traditional data center design with SAN and NAS attached storage to a more flexible solution based on virtual machines with NAS attached storage. While VM storage based on NAS is ideal to meet the high scale, low cost, and manageability requirements of the cloud, it significantly alters the I/O profile for which NAS storage is designed. In this paper, ...

Performance evaluation of the SX-6 vector architecture for scientific computations

The growing gap between sustained and peak performance for scientific applications is a well-known problem in high performance computing. The recent development of parallel vector systems offers the potential to reduce this gap for many computational science codes and deliver a substantial increase in computing capabilities. This paper examines the intranode performance of the NEC SX-6 vector p...

Co-scheduling on Upcoming Many-Core Architectures

Co-scheduling is known to optimize the utilization of supercomputers. By choosing applications with distict resource demands, the application throughput can be increased avoiding an underutilization of the available nodes. This is especially true for traditional multi-core architecture where a subset of the available cores are already able to saturate the main memory bandwidth. In this paper, w...

Reliability and Performance Evaluation of Fault-aware Routing Methods for Network-on-Chip Architectures (RESEARCH NOTE)

Nowadays, faults and failures are increasing especially in complex systems such as Network-on-Chip (NoC) based Systems-on-a-Chip due to the increasing susceptibility and decreasing feature sizes. On the other hand, fault-tolerant routing algorithms have an evident effect on tolerating permanent faults and improving the reliability of a Network-on-Chip based system. This paper presents reliabili...
